::LYRICS::

Today I turned twentysomething
I guess I just lost count
There was a time when all I would care for
Was to what a year would amount

Now I know I'm older not wiser
Still more lost than found
But there's one thing that is clearer
And that's the meaning of dust on the ground

Endless commotion
Jobs and promotions
Climbing meritocracies
I need to get my act together
Because my friends are faring so much better than me

I'm always the poorer
The one who's less surer
The one who turned his back on prestige
If I listened to my betters
Then maybe life would be that much better for me

Every week I'm at dinner parties
Conversation and good wine
When I look around at the table
The company's so culturally refined

Now I can't look myself in the mirror
Because I've never read Ulysses
And as for carpe diem
It's getting late in the day to seize

Every time I see a friend succeed
Something dies inside of me
But don't call it jealousy
Think of it more as societal envy
A case of the old anxiety
